A lot of my elder patients feel apathy and even depression towards the end of their golden years – helping them go on is not easy when medicine seems like a lost battle from the beginning.

My girls and I have sometimes talked about Corrie ten Boom and Viktor Frankl. They were able to come out of harrowing experiences because they found meaning in life during the hardest of times.
