The perfect sport for the avid reader

Reading can turn into an addiction when you find a good book. Using an ebook reader can be easier on your eyes as you can modify the font, yet staying in bed/at office/ anywhere else  can easily give you cervical pain and feeling numb from the lack of movement.

i jump from book to book all the time – and meditation is a blessing (when I remember to do it) – but I found a better replacement for it – a sport that determines me to think in the present, focus on the breathing and activate all my muscles without feeling any sweat – swimming.

While you are so lost in a book it is easy to “forget” on keeping your spine well aligned so you are at increased risk of developing scoliosis and kyphosis – well you can’t do that while swimming because you lose balance and well…you sink.

This is even more important as avid readers (usually) have white-collar jobs which are just as bad for the flexibility of the spinal column.

Here is a good video on training the muscles that are mostly used while swimming on the dry.

I learnt swimming quite late – at 25 years old! – and although my resistance is less than optimal, I make small progress with each visit at the swimming pool. Try it after going to the library 😉
