Why Have Children? The Ethical Debate

In a world set-out against childless/childfree persons, this book sets out to prove that it is the persons that decide on parenting that should justify their choice, not the other way round.

The arguments put forth for having or not having children are female-centric in respecting bodily autonomy as it is the woman that bears the burden of childbearing and childrearing.

The author criticizes neither people who have children, neither those who don’t – and she dismantles many of the reasons people should have kids – like passing on genes, names, property or having a duty towards one’s species, nation, religion, parents and so on.

Sometimes a little bit difficult for someone untrained to read philosophy, it’s the kind of book that makes you reanalyze “the status quo” – what you thought it’s set in stone.
