During my last two posts, I placed some subtle hints that I’ve been through a very stressful period of my life because of an exam – now that it passed, I feel somehow lost, without an immediate goal in sight 🙂
Although I had to force myself to stop reading anything else than the subjects for the exam – especially during the last week – this was not easy at all and I’ve checked some new books which I am about to tell you about in the future posts.
A mixed source of good and not-so-good books that I use is Free-eBooks – since anyone can publish, I found some “books” that were no more than trashy ads, but the feedback system easily identifies them in the absence of an editor. I still got some good books here – one such gem recently found is “Natural pregnancy and parenting”. I’m not a parent (yet), but given my medical background, I need to stay up-to-date and I’m always looking for alternative views beyond what I was taught in medical school.
There are things I don’t agree with (like with any text I’m reading), but the value of such books is that they make you think and do your own research and that is priceless!
One of the things I do agree wholeheartedly is that animal fats are absolutely necessary and healthy – as long as the animals were fed their natural diets – not soy and not artificial mixes!
I admit I didn’t do enough research on my own to appreciate whether vaccines are really such a danger, but I’m open to such views.
Whenever I commute by tube, I am always amazed by mothers who carry their babies in strollers – they look so inconvenient and heavy – never thought there is a simpler solution like carrying the child in a sling – until I read this book!
The chapter on home-schooling touched a chord in me – as I consider 90% of what I learnt in formal school (before college) to be useless – the only useful thing was (somehow) the piece of paper called a diploma. I don’t think home-schooling is possible in Europe, but that would be a welcome change, as long as the graduating tests are standardized anyway.
Given my opinion on what I have learnt in school, I see reading as the best hobby to counteract this brainwashing – it is the best gift you can give a child!
