How to find your desired book in several worldwide libraries at once

Thanks to the wonders of interlibrary loan, no one is tied to their local library anymore, but how do you find the libraries where your desired book is located at?

One such resource is Worldcat – it searches any type of media among the libraries that registered on their website.

You can search libraries near you by typing their name, postal code, state, province or country. Only librarians can register libraries here. I didn’t see too many libraries for the part of the world where I live, but hopefully the libraries here will catch on.

Item types can be articles, books – including audiobooks, eBooks and Braille books – as well as videos, images, maps, music and many more.

By signing up for a free account, you can create lists, bibliographies and reviews.

You can even browse certain genres by using Worldcat Genres – unfortunately this is for fiction only.

Adding your favorite libraries to your profile, sharing your interests and personal Web pages and creating whole lists of books and media items owned by libraries are just some of the tools provided here.

Do you know of other such library collections?
