Great places to read

A reader reads.

Yet depending on the book I am reading and the mood I am in, I don’t just read. The location and the content of the book should harmonize like yin and yang. A difficult (emotional) book requires unbroken silence; a light book or a rigid course for the next exam demands some background noise.

You can find me at my personal desk sipping every word from reference books worthy of taking notes. Sometimes a cozy armchair is more appropriate depending on the atmosphere of the book.

Literature is best read in bed – with some lounge music in the background. And can you image going to bed without reading just a couple of pages before? Neither can I!

What best time to browse a cookbook filled with savory short stories than while eating? In my case, this addiction got so bad that I can’t eat without reading something…anything, please! It’s like cigarettes and coffee…you can’t separate the two vices anymore!

Speaking of food and reading, another good place for reading when you need a little bit of background noise is the coffee shop…or better, the tea house…in most places, you are allowed to stay as much as you want; actually they encourage this bohemian atmosphere!

Some books are best experienced outdoors – on a lonely bench in the park or laying down on the grass…on the beach…at the swimming pool.

And how can we forget about the library? Its reading rooms are so orderly…the quietness and the lack of possible distractions just puts me into the mood for reading … it’s like the church for book addicts…

Ever since I bought my Kindle, I don’t have to rely on music for keeping me entertained on public transportation…people tend to look on what I’m reading, but unless the tube is very crowded, I actually have more privacy than when I used to read paper books with their cover all in view. I also read a lot on trains and in airports – especially when the neighbors are not obnoxiously loud, that’s it. Actually, the reading I do in public transportation is what keeps me from ever owning a car – why would I give up such a productive time?

I love to read while taking long baths, but after my first ebook reader ceased to function in one year after all that steamy atmosphere, I dropped this habit – for ebooks only!

What was the strangest place in which you read a book?
