English: earthquake at 41.306°N, 129.029°E (North Korea) related to news that North Korea had performed a nuclear test which has been confirmed by both North Korea and Russia. After enthusiastically obtaining a new permit in (just) another library – the British Council one this time – I borrowed some magazines and books – and while perusing one of the economic articles, I got to read about the horrible life of prisoners in North Korea who are “stunted and deformed from back-breaking work, 12 hours a day, seven days a week, with so little food that they eat rats and snakes, and pick through cow dung for grains of corn” who are forced to witness the execution of their close family members.

After the initial shock of this and several political war articles, I couldn’t help asking myself why do all these things exist?

Why are atomic bomb tests done? Ain’t it obvious that it will affect EVERYONE one way or the other?

It is impossible not to be affected by all this cruelty if you read about it/ cause it/ produce it – and these tortures can not give one any increase in the quality of life or any reproduction advantage – so why are human rights still an utopia? Can someone explain it to me?
